Prevention Works

“An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”-Benjamin Franklin

Throughout each year, we are dedicated to providing youth and adults alike with the skills needed to combat the pressures associated with life’s changes. With our youth and adolescents, we strive to increase the protective factors while working towards decreasing the risk factors that are prevalent in today’s society. This is done by providing the most accurate and current research based education to the youth of Montgomery County.

Through our various grants and collaborative partnerships, we offer educational groups both large and small to youth in various schools and after school programs throughout the city. Through our work with state agencies such as the Department of Child Abuse and Neglect/The Children’s Trust Fund, we are able to expand our range of services to the area of child abuse and neglect prevention. With this funding, we teach children character education that includes self-esteem building, recognition of feelings and emotions, healthy and unhealthy relationships, and good and bad touch.

The youth of today are our future of tomorrow. We must do all that we can to preserve our most valuable assests. We believe this can successfully be accomplished by providing youth with the necessary tools they need to succeed! Through our various prevention programs, we have been able to target a diverse population of people. The success of our program has relied on our ability to cross racial and ethnic backgrounds in delivering this much needed education to both young and old. With our adult population, we offer more concentrated services in the area of HIV/AIDS. Adults are encouraged through education and intervention techniques to become more knowledgeable of ways to decrease their risks and exposure to HIV/AIDS. Adults are also encouraged to obtain an HIV test at least once yearly. Through this education, adults are empowered to make healthier choices for themselves and their loved ones.
